Last September 23, the Center for Social Responsibility (CSR) conducted “Policy Round Table: Assurance for Sustainability Reporting,” which gathered senior level executives, industry experts, and the academe to discuss the importance of external assurance in sustainability reporting.
The roundtable tackled the issues surrounding assurance practices from the perspectives of reporting organizations, as well as assurance in the context of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines.
The results of the roundtable will be written as a policy paper that will be submitted to concerned government (e.g. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources) and private agencies (e.g. GRI and the Philippine Stock Exchange) to raise awareness and promote the practice of conducting external assurance in sustainability reports, and provide incentive to reporting organizations who will engage in assurance.
The participants of the Policy Round Table came from various Philippine organizations such as SM Prime Holdings, Makati Business Club, Commission on Human Rights, Zuellig Family Foundation, Energy Development Corporation (EDC), WEnergy, Benguet Corporation, AES Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, SGV & Co., First Philippine Holdings (FPH), Union Bank of the Philippines, and Aboitiz Equity Ventures.
